Size #3 Oval Stitcher's Tray – Proclamation of a National Thanksgiving – Civil War Newspaper Lining in an Antiqued Natural Finish
Dimensions: 7 1/4" long x 4 3/4" wide x 1 1/4" high
This handcrafted Shaker-inspired tray features a lined interior made from a genuine Civil War-era newspaper from April 10, 1862. The tray highlights President Abraham Lincoln's proclamation of a national day of thanksgiving, issued in recognition of significant Union victories earlier that year. This historic announcement predated Lincoln’s formal establishment of Thanksgiving as a national holiday in 1863, reflecting early efforts to encourage national unity and gratitude amidst the turmoil of war.
Please note: Due to the age and condition of the newspapers used, natural imperfections such as water stains, color variations from folds, minor rips (which have been glued down to prevent further damage), or small holes may be present. These characteristics enhance the authenticity of each tray, making every piece a distinctive reminder of history.
